Some Of Our Thoughts On "Executive Coaching" |
| |
Executive Coaching
initiatives tend to fall into two broad categories:
- 'growth-oriented'
coaching which is aimed at sharpening overall job performance and,
- 'change-oriented'
coaching which focuses on improving certain behaviours or skills.
|
| |
In our experience,
the most likely candidates for an 'executive coaching program are employees:
- who are under
pressure to perform at a higher level,
- with potential
and promise but who may need some development and,
- who are having
difficulty coping with or making a transition.

|
In addition, a
significant portion of our work has been with CEOs, owner-managers and
individuals running businesses who often do not have many sources of
objective input concerning the issues they are facing.
An executive coaching
program typically lasts between 6 months and one year and involves 3
or 4 phases:
|
| |
- an assessment of the individual which includes an in-depth interview. Sometimes we are asked to complete a 360 review. On occasion, personality profiles may be administered as well.
- feedback of the results which includes an assessment of whether or not we believe an individual will benefit from a development or "coaching" program.
- based on the overall picture of everything the person is trying to do, a program of development is outlined which can include specific development targets, prioritization of activities and action planning.
- on-going development or coaching sessions to help the individual get clear about what they want to achieve, create a plan to realize the goals, eliminate barriers to development and help the person stay focused on their goals.

The
Bottom Line On Executive Development & Coaching
The
bottom line on our executive development programs is that they can enhance an individual's performance,"save" borderline cases and in some instances, help determine quickly whether an individual has what is required to move ahead.
